Annually since 2005, the VCYC has hosted the Positive Alternatives Conference for 6th graders.
This year, elementary schools from the Lakeland Consortium - Arbor Vitae-Woodruff, Minocqua J1, Lac du Flambeau and North Lakeland - will attend on Thursday, May 2nd. Students from Northland Pines and Phelps school districts will attend on Friday, May 3rd.
Students rotate through various sessions throughout the conference, one of which is an Exhibit Hall. We are looking for non-profits or businesses that offer free or low-cost activities for youth. The best displays are interactive. Contact us if you would like to promote your organization!
Research shows most adults who struggle with addiction starting misusing substances while in junior high. The Positive Alternatives Conference raises youth awareness about local resources that provide healthy alternatives. Sessions include teambuilding, an outdoor pursuit, a Native American cultural activity, tips for healthy relationships, and an Exhibit Hall. Exhibits are interactive and include gardening, nutrition, clubs, and natural resources.
